Statistics show that 25 to 40% of homeless Canadian youth are LGBTQ2S+, so it’s time to come together to do something about it!
This event is a film screening of SAFQEY’s (Safe Accommodations for Queer Edmonton Youth) documentary on queer and trans youth homelessness in Edmonton and Calgary.
SAFQEY is a grassroots action group raising community awareness about the lack of specialized services for queer, non-binary, and trans youth.
In order to address the gap in services to trans and non-binary youth facing homelessness this group is taking action to raise community awareness. To achieve our goal we are creating a documentary, which will create space for local queer and trans people to share their experiences accessing support services. Queer revolution is not finished and we need to ensure that class, ethnicity, race, ability, and gender identity are considered when discussing LGBT*Q liberation. Join our cause and be a part of making our city more inclusive.
This event is a collaboration between Calgary Outlink, the Calgary Sexual Health Centre, the Aura Program at the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary, and SAFQEY.
60% of funds raised from this event will go to SAFQEY, and 40% of funds raised with go to Calgary Outlink’s Safer Shelters Program.
